The Experience

Every year between May - July, the largest migration of fish in the world takes place on the east coast of South Africa. The sardines (Sardinops sagax) move from the Eastern Cape to the coast of KwaZulu Natal. During their migration, the sardines attract a huge variety of predators that come to feed on them. This is a unique opportunity to view, either by diving or from a boat, hundreds of sharks, thousands of dolphins and birds as well as large numbers of humpback whales. Visiting Brydes Whales, Cape fur seals and penguins can also be spotted. This is one of nature’s most amazing gatherings and if you are a marine or nature enthusiast this is event that can not be missed.
