Conservation status

All three species are listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Redlist of Threatened Species. Tiger sharks are caught in targeted and non target fisheries as their fins are high value. Blacktips are targeted by demersal longlining fisheries in the area and bull sharks face threats from fisheries and the additional threat of habitat destruction. All three species are caught in the KwaZulu Natal shark nets.

Research

Large research projects have been initiated on the tiger and bull sharks, but no research to date on the blacktips.
