The Experience

Diving alongside whale sharks must be one of the most memorable experiences a person can have. Reaching up to 18 meters with mouths over a meter long you would be forgiven for feeling a little overwhelmed coming face to face with these sharks, but these gentle giants pose no threat to people. Join us on this unforgettable dive.

Habitat

These sharks cruise up and down the coastline and are even known to cross continents. Whether they are swimming over reef or sand every location is special simply because they are there.

Shark behaviour and diver interaction

Whale sharks are surprisingly accommodating of divers as long as they are not harassed or touched. Young whale sharks are particularly patient and very inquisitive and some of the best diving moments are had with these playful youngsters. These sharks are most often encountered at the surface as they swim along. Most times divers can swim alongside the sharks at the same speed they do.

Tips for safely diving whale sharks

Whale sharks do not like to be touched. Never grab onto the whale shark or ride it as this is completely disrespectful and may frighten the shark and cause it to leave the area (in some cases not to return). Calmly swim alongside the shark making sure to give it space and simply enjoy being so close to such a huge gentle giant.

Filming and photography

There are fantastic filming and photographic opportunities of close-ups with the whale sharks.
